Magazine covers make excellent art. Exhibit A is the the framed 1925 cover in this week’s fresh to market vintage, which tells a story as good cover illustrations do. A lot of time goes into designing magazine covers. Each one is art in its own way. Imagine covers from Life magazine in a study or family room. Vintage celebrity magazines like Photoplay and Teen Beat might be fun in a bedroom. The cover of the immortal Weekly World News would be perfect in any room of the house. New Yorker covers feature beautiful illustrations.
Vinyl record covers are used as wall art, with special ready-to-use frames sold specifically to display them. A cool art wall with album covers and vintage Rolling Stone magazine covers mixed together would be awesome for a music lover.
The good news is that most magazines will fit in ready made frames, so you don’t have to commit to loving them for a long time by having them professionally framed (although you can). You can frame them yourself and then change them out for the seasons.
The other fresh to market picks aren’t candidates to hang on the wall, but they are still very nice indeed.
1943 US War Department First Aid Book
This WWII Basic Field Manual First Aid for Soldiers booklet from the US War Department is an education. Regular first aid manuals cover things like stings, burns, breaks, faints and the other things that happen in regular life. A bag of ice fixes a lot of ailments in a regular first aid book. Compare that to these instructions:

Reading this gives you even more admiration for veterans and for all the things they might have seen and done. You might have read about the history of WWII, but this booklet gives visceral context.

Framed People’s Home Journal Cover c 1925
The People’s Home Journal was a monthly general interest periodical that ran from 1885 until 1929. Published in New York by F.M. Lupton, the magazine’s circulation hovered around one million for many years. Known for its interesting covers, the May 1925 issue featured an Anne Cooper painting of a young girl in a sunbonnet who is planting seeds under the watchful eye of a not-too-friendly rooster. The professionally framed piece would make a charming addition to a little girl’s room.

Red White and Blue Dangle Earrings
Wearing red, white, and blue is often seen as patriotic here in the US. However, we are far from the only country whose flag features these colors. In fact there are several–the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, Chile, Norway, Iceland, Costa Rica and Thailand to name a few. This color combination is quite universal. These earrings made in Hong Kong are lightweight and easy to wear. They dangle just enough to catch the eye with their bright colors and add a bit of fun to a summer wardrobe.

March Madness is on! The Women’s and Men’s NCAA Basketball tournament is rolling. Brackets have been filled in. Office pools are closed. All that’s left is for results to play themselves out.

Or maybe you’re watching because you hope your evil nemesis team will get sent packing early. Why you watch is up to you. But if you watch you should be dressed appropriately, preferably in vintage.
This souvenir hat from the 2002 Women’s NCAA Final Four in San Antonio is an excellent choice. It’s got both history and NCAA spirit. If you happen to support UConn, Tennessee, Oklahoma or Duke, it will give you extra swagger. But even if you don’t if will definitely turn heads.
