We are so enamored with the Iroquois Astrology bowl in this week’s fresh to market vintage that we snooped around the internet to see what other pieces were made in the pattern. Imagine our disappointed face when we discovered the only two forms appear to be the wide rimmed soup bowl and an ashtray. Both pieces were made in all the signs of the zodiac, so that’s some consolation.
What to do with a zodiac soup bowl? We have three ideas: hang them on the wall, get the appropriate sign for everyone in the family and use them on birthdays or special occasions like Tuesdays or add them to a black and white mix and match china set. We write a lot about collecting things here on Vintage Unscripted, and to us, achieving a full set of these bowls presents a worthy challenge for any zodiac-loving collector.
We are also fully enamored with the goldstone jewelry, the little political buttons and the jolly Thermos jug that round out this week’s fresh to market vintage.
Iroquois China Pisces Bowl c 1960s
This Iroquois China bowl is heavy vitrified restaurantware from the 1960s and would make a fun gift for the Pisces in your life. The company was founded in the 1900s in central NY, and by the 1930s, it was shipping 4.5 million pieces annually. One of their claims to fame was an order for 500,000 pieces from the US Government, perhaps for state dinners – who knows? Iroquois China ceased operations in 1969, making the Zodiac series among the last to be produced.

Goldstone Pendant & Earrings
Goldstone is a man-made semiprecious stone made from glass and copper. Occasionally, it may be made with other minerals to produce different colors. The most common version is this reddish shade. The copper gives it the glitter and color while the glass makes it easy to polish and provides the shine. This set includes a pair of oval clip on earring and a larger matching pendant. They are decorated with tiny silver metal leaves. The pendant, when worn, is set at an angle rather than the usual centered bail. It’s a nice transition from summer to fall.

1976 Reproduction Political Buttons
These nifty little presidential campaign button reproductions are dated 1976 on the back, meaning they were probably made for the Bicentennial. They’re wee, only 7/8″ diameter, but they would be a novelty time capsule for that person you know whose favorite sport is politics.

1970s Thermos Insulated 1 Gallon Jug
It’s not summer until you’ve had ice water from an insulated picnic jug. This Thermos jug, with the turquoise bricked top and white bottom, is exactly what you need. The big lid opens for you to put in your ice and water and the small spout opens to pour. Having the cap physically attached to the jug gives every picnic a happy ending instead of a frantic search.
Though these are called water jugs, everyone knows the proper 1970s beverage to serve out of it is either Kool-aid or lemonade made from powdered drink mix.
