Chinoiserie

Chinoiserie describes western interpretations of Chinese art, motifs and decorative arts styles used for elements of home decor beginning in the 17th century and reaching fad levels of popularity in the 18th century. Common motifs include the natural world, landscapes, dragons, birds and botanicals. These motifs were used on wallpaper, textiles, painted furniture and decorative pieces like plates, lamps, urns and vases.
