Fresh to Market Vintage:10/4/2026

October has many diversions. Halloween is the banner event here in the US, but don’t sleep on Octoberfest or post season baseball. There’s also Columbus Day/Indigenous People’s Day, which is the peak cider donut and leaf peeping weekend in New England. We would also point out that it can be an excellent month in your flower garden. The temps are cooler, there’s more rain, and your annuals are putting on a final burst before they get frostbit (if you live in a place where there is frost.) We’ve covered three of those events in this week’s fresh to market vintage. The abalone pendant doesn’t need a holiday to be special. It makes any day you wear it a holiday.

Abalone Shell Disc Pendant

This flat polished slice of abalone shell encased with brass wire and hung from an oblong shaped hanger is an unusual pendant. This may have been part of a watch chain or chatelaine. It would be lovely strung on a satin ribbon and worn as a necklace. It’s very old and possibly Victorian. A beautiful piece of history, I would love to know its origin.

Floral Painted Glass Vase c 1920s

No need to suffer from a lack of fresh flowers in the dead of winter when a brightly colored vintage vase, hand-painted with a floral design, can stand alone. Happily, it also lends itself nicely to a wildflower bouquet since, as we all know, there is another spring right around the corner.

1980s St. Louis Cardinals Jacket

Baseball season is over for all but the select few, but love of team remains whatever the past season’s record. This vintage 1980s or 90s jacket would give a Cardinals fan a maximum swagger. The satiny finish and stitched logo is unmatched for strutting out your devotion. Fair weather fans need not apply. (FYI, we have some vintage St. Louis wool hats, too.)

Antique German Halloween Die Cut

For antique Halloween collectors, German decorations from the 1900s-1930s are the most prized. Germany dominated the Halloween market with products including: papier mâché and pulp jack-o-lanterns, candy containers and figures; paper die cuts, postcards and party goods; and tin noisemakers.

This 5″ embossed man in the moon with his black cat die cut would be a prize in any antique Halloween lover’s collection.
