Candy Cane Fun – Vintage Picks of the Week

This week’s vintage picks celebrate candy canes. They were invented in Germany, and their first use was to keep young choir singers quiet during a Christmas living creche ceremony. (Read more about it here.)

The actual candy cane making process is a wonder. I grew up in Gardner, MA where Priscilla’s Candy Store makes their own.  (Here is a quick video of the process.) Candy canes are known for their red and white stripes and peppermint flavor, but have also been updated with different colors and flavors. The sad part of this sweet treat is that it is seasonal.

This week’s picks highlight other seasonal favorites that also resemble this sweet confection with no added calories!

Cheery Napier Candy Canes And Ribbon Christmas Brooch Pin

Do you see that they almost form a heart? I love that. What a cheery lapel decoration or vest add-on. The holly adds a Happy Hollydays twist to your outings. It is available at FrivolousIndulgences on Etsy for $35.09

Victoria Jones Vintage Christmas Sweater

Who would notice my waistline when I am wearing this adorable tunic with some great black heavy tights and cute ballet shoes? Well, exactly no one! I think it is over the top in a much prettier, elegant and fun way and will “bling on” the compliments. bringinitbackvintage on Etsy offers this piece of holiday attire for $57.

Lefton Candy Cane Sleigh and Girl with Presents

Candy canes make remarkable skates for elves or in this instance runners and decor for a sleigh. This sweet figurine reminds me of Grandma’s decorations. She would have a story about each item and why she liked it. They sang Jingle Bells while walking to neighbors’ to bring a small gift or baked item. The visit would not be complete without a carol sung on the front porch. Sweet as a candy cane, this item is at SlyfieldandSine for $72 on Etsy.

Napco Noel Kids Riding Candy Cane Sled

This looks more like a candy cane toboggan and sports an area in the back to hold actual candy canes at the ready for visitors, as well as maybe some silk holly for an adorable bit of decor. My friend’s family had something like it when they were kids in the 1960s. It was dropped and repaired and still cherished today by one of them. This one is in good condition and ready to deliver candy canes in your home. PurpleHousePicks on Etsy has this for $178.50
