Vintage Beach Baby Summer Selections

It was always a big treat to go to the beach, be it a pond, lake or even the ocean for my large family in the 50s and 60s. There always seemed to be a baby sister and a two-year-old along with us. We older kids splashed around in the water and depending on our age could only go in to our knees or waist. It was also great to take one of the younger ones to dig in the wet sand to create canals and decorated houses using our hands and sometimes sharing a pail and shovel. These are vintage beach baby selections that flood my memory with those bucolic days.

Ceramic Baby on a Beach Toy

This sweet little vintage beach baby in a onesie is sitting on a duck or goose beach toy was made in Japan. I can see a new mom or dad in a very shallow area or even at the small waves almost at the edge balancing baby and gently splashing water on their chubby legs to introduce them to something much larger than a bathinette or sink. Of course many “first time at the beach” snapshots will be taken. I just love the sandy-colored cowlick! Baby is going to sleep well tonight!

This cutie is priced at $59.95 by MemoryHotel on Etsy.

Two Piece Baby Stretch Set with Sailboats

This is sized for a wee little one who is too young even for digging in the sand. The blue color speaks of sunny skies and cool ocean water. The soft textured stretch material would be cool, comfortable and  absorbent on the little sailor. Perhaps a parent will bring them out in the shallow water to wet their tiny little toesies. Fresh air, cool wind and sunshine is beneficial for everyone.

Baby Sunsuit and Romper with Bonnet Sewing Pattern Size 2

You may have heard that I am picking up sewing after umpty ump years and have been developing my skills on the sewing machine. The original sewer using this pattern bought it at Sears & Roebuck in the 1950s for a special baby in their family. Could it be a proud grandma who had years of sewing experience under her belt? Three tiers of ruffles? No problem! I am certain those ruffles padded them a little more when sitting on the beach. The bonnet folds so it can be tucked into a diaper bag. Just adorable in either design.

houseofpatterns on Etsy will part with this nifty vintage pattern for $22.

Beach Mousie, Wee Forest Folk

This teensie mouse is going to be an architect someday…they are sitting in sand-friendly clothing with a sensible visored hat to keep the sun away while their building is under construction. Wee Forest Folk are made in Carlisle, MA and depict everyday activities, celebrations and holidays in the smallest detail. This design is retired which means it is more difficult to find. This might be a beautiful memento of the baby who made sandcastles on the beach and went on to design and build structures of stone, steel, glass and concrete. I need to ask my sister if her daughter who is an architect started this way.

FairyTalesLombard on Etsy wants to share this little mousie with you for $65.
