This summer, when it isn’t raining here in New England, we are experiencing high temps. What I want to wear when the heat and humidity soars is clothing made of linen. I posted here a little while ago about linen and my love of it. Now that I have enough flax-based clothing made, bought and thrifted, I believe I am ready. To help you get ready for summer, I have picked some lovely vintage linen clothes for summer and hope you will add them to your wish list.
I have two long skirts that I enjoy wearing with shorter tops. I love the simple elegance of this Marilyn Anselm midi skirt made in England. The natural color also works well with other colors or prints. Longer linen skirts have a graceful motion when you are walking. I love the color and pattern of this vintage man’s shirt! Yellow reminds me of cheerful flowers, lemons and lemonade and of course sunshine. It is indeed one of my favorite colors. It is a linen cotton blend just perfect for a sweltering summer day or night. The bonus is that it is hemmed to wear without tucking which allows it to enable air to help ventilate one’s torso.
Here’s a beauty I would love for its very unique print. It is certainly abstract and has darker lines that suggest a stained glass window effect. I see clouds, little paintings, shapes of states and tiny sunrises or sunsets. I would love to wear it to an outdoor concert or street fair. I know my husband would be able to see where I was from the one-of-a-kind pattern.
Sometimes in summer one can experience a cool fog or offshore winds which require an extra layer. This men’s brown jacket can come to the rescue. Looks like it can go from casual beach walking to an evening drinks party with just a few accessories. It also is a blend of cotton and linen and looks soft and cozy and very handsome.

I have taken you through the day and evening with all sorts of vintage linen clothes. Now I have a beautiful antique French linen nightdress or nightgown made in the 19th century. I love that the initials remain. They show ownership so that, for example, the women in the family would get their own linens back after laundering. This would be a beautiful photo prop on a model in a garden or other romantic and atmospheric setting. I personally would love to wear it to sleep in.
