This week’s vintage picks are brought to you by Linda of Selective Salvage.
If words like “practical, affordable, creative and sustainable” strike a cord with you, then VINTAGE should come to mind when you choose to add to your wardrobe. Here are three pieces from that glorious decade, the 60s, that will ensure you will stand out in the crowd the next time you have lunch with the ladies.
Orange A-Line Mini Dress c 1960s
What I like about this: It’s not often that you can associate the word “elegant” with something bright orange but in this case, I can say this darling dress is an elegant but fun example of everyday wear that could have been found in the closets of the 60s fashionistas like Twiggy. The silhouette is classic and the decorative bow adds a touch of whimsey.
Enid Collins “Jewel Bokay” Purse c 1960s
And the purse? The life story of handbag designer Enid Collins is one of a talented woman fulfilling the American dream. Her designs made their way from a kitchen table in Texas in the 40s to upscale department stores like Neiman Marcus, Lord and Taylor and Saks in the 60s. Her bejeweled purses remain highly collectible today and are guaranteed to bring a smile to the face of your luncheon companions.
Women’s Cats Eye Glasses Frames, NOS c 1960s
Why did they catch my eye? No need to worry about accessorizing your outfit with jewelry when you’re wearing this sophisticated pair of rhinestone cat eye glasses. Vintage eyewear is back in style and happily, “new old stock” like this pair is available for purchase online from dealers like the Vintage Optical Shop on Etsy.
I hope you enjoy your lunch with your vintage-loving companions. If dressing for the decades strikes a note with you, be sure to check out our “When We Were Fab” series.
