Now that the weather is stabilizing toward the warmer side of spring, I would love to visit with friends who have great gardens or beautiful landscaped areas. I would be pleased to be invited to a tea or drinks in the late afternoon or warm evening. The event could be casual or dressy for just a few or a crowd. Here are a handful of vintage items I picked that were inspired by my vintage garden get together.
Micro Mosaic Scarab Bug Pin
When you work in the garden or just visit one, you expect to see bugs which are beneficial and industrious for pollination and even pest control. We are currently celebrating “No Mow May” in which we are giving cover to emerging insects by allowing our “lawn” to take a walk on the wild side. This lovely scarab is an exotic beetle. Anyone could wear it on a dress or jacket while perusing the peonies. Be prepared to talk about insect visitors with someone at the party.
This beauty is priced at $68.95 by SeasideMarket on Etsy.
Ceramic Honey Jar with Bees
This would be a sweet vintage garden gift for the get together host along with a jar of local honey and a wood or resin honey dipper. Honey bees do not want to sting you! (Yellow jackets, however…) I have worked for years in flower gardens at a local living history museum and was NEVER stung. We were taught to not close our hand on a flower without checking for a honey bee first. They are very busy and would rather bring the nectar back to the hive than die.
Did you know that honey is a thoughtful addition to a charcuterie board? It is supposedly wonderful on parmesan… And of course honey is also delightful in hot tea and also in adult beverages. This bee-utiful ceramic is available for $24 on Etsy in the shop owned by IonesAttic
Vintage Garden Girl Planter
Of course this ceramic planter could be used to hold flowers on the refreshments or tea table at the soiree, but I have a few other ideas in mind for her. Put some swizzle sticks or those amazing glass straws with a built in spoon for tall drinks. My other idea is to put luscious pieces of fruit on long skewers and arrange them in the planter which has some foam to stabilize them. Yum!
Little Miss Rosie is available on Etsy in BlueBarnCollectibles for $31.
Culver Floral Wine or Highball Glasses
Speaking of drinks…these are a perfect pairing of Mad Men meets Flower Power! The color and designs will add to the flowers in the garden. Use them and bring on the green of the lawn and the blue, blue sky. These would cheer me each time I use them or would look great in the bar area ready to be put to use.
ModandMore on Etsy will part with these party worthy glasses for $99.95.
Anthropomorphic PY Flower Face Salt and Pepper Shakers
I am hopelessly in love with anthropomorphic flowers and know of some serious collectors who have display shelves of dozens of iterations of anthropomorphic flowers from tiny to large. I would use these for decor on the table in the garden along with others, perhaps anthropomorphic bugs to create a magical tablescape. They are elevated to decor purposes only to extend their life.
You can get them for $129.99 on Etsy from the shop at TheLogChateau.
Laura Ashley Cotton Botanical Sundress
Now this is a dress I would love to wear! How about you? The weather is warming but you can also bring a lacy shawl with you to cover your shoulders if it gets cool. Pure elegance for just smelling the roses or even freshly mowed lawn. Love the black background in the print and also as my friend puts it “the swirly skirt”!
This beauty is on offer from StGeorgeVintage for $128 and is ready for the vintage garden party season.
Italian Faience Pottery Pigeon
Pigeons are rock doves and when I look at this bird with its tail feathers fanned, I think of doves. We have a mourning dove that visits our yard and we tend to hear its soft coos more than we see it. this would also make a nice bit of decor on a table placed between two chairs for a chance to sit and listen to the sounds of birds or bees and a peaceful moment.
NextStageVintage has this elegant bird for $45 on Etsy.
