Small and Beautiful – Vintage Picks of the Week

“It’s the small things that fill our life with joy everyday.”  – Sachin Tendulkar

My shop tends to focus on small and beautiful vintage items. Miniature items, such as victorian dollhouse decor, can keep me fascinated for hours. How could something very complex could be made at such a small scale and with such detail and skill? I cannot pass by tiny little scissors or pins or miniature books. I guess the good things is that collections of some of these small and beautiful things can fit into a shoebox.

Vintage French Glass Buttons

abrownpaperparcel is selling these for $25.83 on Etsy

What I love about these: I love that they were designed and made to use on clothing and yet each is a little piece of art. I was looking at button craft websites and found several very nice ideas. One offshoot would be to make them into earrings or collect enough of a similar them to sew into a small or large heart or abstract shape on the front of a plain felted wool vest or even the back yoke of a denim jacket. It would be certain to attract attention to inspire others to get out the buttons to embellish something. Ooh La La!

Mouse Band

Find this mouse band on Etsy in GroovyMagpie for $22.50

Why these mice delight me: I have this thing for small anthropomorphic animals and the idea of a kitschy orchestra of all sorts of animals playing together would be so much fun to collect and assemble.

Antique Advertising Pocket Mirror

Why this inspires me:  Small advertising items such as these are both functional and almost always have beautiful graphic designs and colors. I would center this on some rich gold velvet in a shadow box. I might also collect these and create groupings in larger frames. Each is a little piece of art.

This beauty is sold on etsy for $40 by TraditionsVintageCo.
