Perpetual calendars have been a way to keep track of days, weeks, and months for millennia. An example of perpetual calendars dates to the late 14th century. Calendars help us organize our lives and remember important dates. Most of us carry our calendars with us on our phones. Although having a visual that we can jot things down on or remind us of today’s date is a way to keep us connected to the past. The tradition of buying a new calendar at the end of the year is becoming a nostalgic memory for many folks. Do you still use a physical calendar?

This Unusual Item Drew my Attention: The creative mind that conceived this interesting scientific calendar intrigues me. What a fascinating item. I can easily see this perpetual calendar on the desk of a scientist. Made in the late 19th century, it sold at auction in 2021.
English Oak Perpetual Calendar
I Love the Classic Styling of this Perpetual Calendar: These wooden perpetual calendars were quite popular in the late 19th and early 20th century. This one is ca. 1920/1930 and is in excellent condition. Made to set on a mantle or sometimes hung on a wall these are still readily available.
Whether you prefer your calendar digital and in your pocket, or physical and on a desk or wall, we each need the occasional reminder of what day it is or where we need to be. The idea of keeping track of dates was just as important in the 14th century as it is today means we truly are not that different from the folks who lived long ago.
