Usually we would offer some kind of prosaic post for Father’s Day about how awesome dad and dad-type dudes are. But this year, we’re playing the long game by offering a vintage knitting pattern for a 1960s men’s vest, a single-breasted ribbed vest to be specific. If you start knitting now, you’ll be done long before the holiday season–yay hooray for a cool pattern with no sleeves.
This pattern comes from Coates & Clark’s Knits for Men: Sweaters and Accessories (1962) Yes, like all vintage patterns, you will need to update your yarn selection. Judging by the gauge, this yarn would be a (1) super fine. Always knit a swatch to check your gauge. You’ll be knitting on tiny little No. 2 and 3 needles, which means it will be a really fine knit but not a quick one.
