Playing or listening to music during the holidays is part of celebrating the season. While some of us prefer traditional holiday classics or contemporary hits, others prefer our tunes to be a little heavier. We present to you our picks for a Heavy Metal Christmas. Be it our music, accouterments or accessories, us metal lovers like things a bit darker. Believe it or not, many metal bands have covered traditional holiday songs.
Folks from Alice Cooper to Dave Grohl to Rob Halford have put aside the black leather to croon a holiday standard or two. But aside from the music, what do you buy a metal lover for Christmas? One band in particular has come up with an idea. Since 2012 Slayer has been putting out Christmas sweaters. Several other bands have followed suit and these vintage Heavy Metal Christmas sweaters have become quite the collectible.
You know the old saying of “If you build it, they will come.” Well, metal lovers have come out in droves for holiday-themed items from their favorite bands. There are ornaments, tree toppers, socks, t-shirts, candles, holiday cards, and so much more. For the metal musician, a vintage guitar designed for their favorite riff lord could be a holy grail gift.
Just because it’s all about metal doesn’t mean it can’t be vintage. Remember, that first Slayer Christmas sweater came out in 2012! Slipknot jumped on board with their version in 2014. That’s ten years ago, which doesn’t quite qualify as vintage, but it’s close enough. Vintage band merchandise can make great gifting for your favorite Metalhead. Concert T-shirts or posters from a memorable tour, key chains, beanies, badges, pins, and patches are all collectible and make great gifts.
