Tick tock, October is knocking on the door. And that means it’s time for our annual reminder that Christmas is closer than you think. If you close your eyes, you can feel Santa’s cinnamon-scented breath on the back of your neck, because he is coming closer and closer. Christmas means gifts, and gifts mean shopping, and if there’s vintage to find for someone on your list, the time to shop is all year, but now the pressure is on. We’ve got some cool pieces in this week’s fresh to market vintage that might be just right for someone on your list.
Mary Ellen makes an spot on observation below about people starting to shop for vintage holiday items as well. Us sellers hear that tick tock too, and we’re digging out all the Christmas vintage we bought back months ago and getting it listed. If there’s something special you’re after, now is the time to look for it for sure.
Rainbow AB Crystal Necklace
I love color, so this necklace had to come home with me when I saw it. But as a vintage seller I know I can’t keep everything. So off it will go for someone else to enjoy. Being a longer length, this would work well to brighten up a fall sweater. If you’re so inclined, it could also be the starting point of a fabulous neck mess with a string of pearls and a few layers of gold or silver chunky chains. How would you wear it?
Rainbow Crystal AB Necklace, $45.95

Sweet Burley Tobacco Tin c 1900s
One good thing that emerged from the days of tobacciana is the fabulous vintage that has survived. American tobacco companies marketed their wares with colorful containers like this great Sweet Burley store tin that was valued enough that it was not disposed of when the 48 individual packets of tobacco had sold.
Country Store Tobacco Tin, $250

Rolf Berg Gnome Votive Holder
We seem to be in the roller coaster part of the year where we careen through the fall and into the winter holidays. From what I am seeing, Christmas decorations and gifts are being sought after in our online shops. In response to the views I am getting, I need to haul out my cache of Christmas and winter things. This charming gnome tea candle holder was created by Rolf Berg, a Swedish ceramic artist. This fellow has a female equivalent if you need her as well. I believe there’s always a place for gnomes for the holidays
Swedish Christmas Candle Holder, $53.99

Lake Erie College Booklet and Amelia Earhart Photo
In the 1930s, Amelia Earhart visited the Lake Erie College flying club. She gave the women tips on how to handle planes, inspected the planes, dined with the women and lectured after on her exploits. This snapshot was tucked into a college booklet owned by a woman who was a member of the flying club.
Amelia Earhart Snapshot and Lake Erie College Booklet, $35.

Who on your list would be tickled with an Amelia Earhart photo? Or maybe a gnome votive holder? Or some aurora borealis crystals to light up their outfits and their smile? Or an unusual piece of American tobacciana? Buying vintage gives you that special feeling that comes from shopping small and shopping sustainably as a bonus. That’s more rewarding than the prize in your box of Cracker Jack.
