ROAD TRIP!!! This week’s fresh to market vintage is designed to make you get in the car and fly down the highway, preferably to somewhere near the ocean, where you can get fried dough, play skee-ball and watch muscle cars patrol the circuit at night. It’s not hard to trigger that impulse in the summer. Summer is designed specifically for you to load up the car, put on music (doesn’t matter if it’s Raffi or Def Leopard as long as everyone knows the words so they can sing at the top of their lungs), roll down the windows, open the sunroof and drive. The destination matters less than the car ride there. There are probably people in town who are still traumatized by the sight of us howling “’cause tramps like us, baby, we were born to run…” out the minivan window on the way to the grocery store on a humid July eve.
We have not tested this fresh to market vintage post with focus groups. Your results may vary. But if it hits you right in the sunscreen and accelerator, leave one of your favorite summer road trip memories in the comments. Yes, we are talking to YOU!
Antique Asbury Park Casino Souvenir
The casino depicted on this antique souvenir of Asbury Park, New Jersey, was the original wood framed building that burned in 1929. I couldn’t find when it was first constructed, but postcards of it go as far as 1905. All I can think of is of Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes! Rock on friends!
Asbury Park, Monmouth NJ Souvenir, $63.99

Spark Plug Earrings
If you got caught up in the Netflix show “Drive to Survive” like I did, these earrings will hit a note. Or perhaps you love Nascar or even motorcycles. Basically anyone who enjoys vehicles of any sort can relate to these tiny earrings. From what I can find these tiny spark plugs were giveaways. I’ve seen, tie tacks, cufflinks, pendants, and keychains as well as earrings. Talk about the perfect novelty item? What a great way to start a conversation.
Champion Spark Plug Earrings, $22.95

Vintage Industrial Wooden File c 1920s
I’m not sure of the actual use for this interesting old wooden file that boasts what appears to be a maple handle & knob plus a metal file blade on the bottom. When we purchased it in NE in the early 90s, we were told it was an “auto body” tool from the 20s but we have no clue how it would actually be used on a car.
The file’s history may or may not be correct, but it definitely is an unusual old tool with a nice industrial look.
Industrial Wooden Tool, $60

1964 Chevrolet Promotional Magazine
There are advantages to being slothful. Being the last to slap my pick into this blog post means that I can see what everyone else has posted. And although this listing no longer has that new car smell (it’s a month or so old), I was not going to be the only one not to post about cars and the open road. I love mid-century cars and mid-century car ads. Before I listed this, I burned all the aspirational lifestyle photos and new car features a la 1964 into my brain like I used to burn Southside Johnny CDs on my PC. When this magazine goes off to a new home, its memory will stay with me.
1964 Chevrolet Promotional Sales Magazine, $15.
