We are letting our soft sides run wild in this week’s fresh to market vintage. We’ve got flowers. Flowers are an eternally popular design motif in fashion and home decor, and the vases and china are especially light, cheerful and springlike examples. And the crocheted edge hankies, how lovely and yet how practical. Hankies are to paper tissues what cloth diapers are to disposable diapers. Convenience comes at a cost, perhaps it’s time to give hankies a try again (although maybe not when you are honking and coughing your way through a virus–ewwww.) And the paper doll furniture, how elegant are the styles and how amazing is it that this piece survived uncut from the turn of the century. Can you imagine the fine cutting and gluing that would have been required to assemble those pieces? And how carefully a child would have played with them to preserve them.

Pair of Otigari Vases with Moriage
In preparation for the May flowers that follow April showers, two beautiful vases that pair well together. Moriage is a raised slip of ceramic that in this case emphasizes the flowers. The pillow vase is 6.5” high and about 6” at its widest point. The soft lined octagon vase is 6” high. Both are vintage and in good condition and will appeal to the lover of soft colors and restrained details. For flowers, greens, ferns and even delicate dried branches and will make an excellent gift especially when filled with blooms.

Gorham Sweet Violets Place Setting
This pretty Sweet Violets pattern by Gorham China was only made from 1989-1995, which presents a seller with a conundrum. If you have a set for four, do you sell it as one set or break it into replacement lots of four individual place settings? In this case, it became four individual place settings. Even though it was made for a short period of time, it is a popular pattern. That means there might be more people out there looking to replace broken pieces or add to their sets than to start a whole new collection. Selling it as place settings gives collectors a chance to buy what they need instead of having to pay for much more than is necessary.

Set of Six Crochet Edge Hankies
It’s allergy season. Trees and flowers are in full bloom and our eyes and noses are watering. No one wants to carry around a box of tissues with them. But a beautiful hankie, that’s a different story. Long before we had disposable paper to wipe our eyes and noses, we had cloth handkerchiefs. In keeping with Earth Day, how much nicer and better for our planet is a lovely washable hankie than a single-use wad of paper? This set of six crochet-edged vintage hankies would do the trick.

Framed Uncut McLoughlin Paper Doll Furniture
Since the McLoughlin Brothers toy company was the largest paper doll manufacturer in the world from 1828 until it was sold to Milton Bradley in the 1920s, it’s no wonder paper doll furniture was part of its offering. This set of uncut dining room and bedroom furniture was preserved many years ago by an enterprising soul who constructed the frame out of old boxes as evidenced by the labels on the back. RECYCLING. REPURPOSING. Words that matter even more these days.
