Can a color be beloved? This week’s fresh to market vintage features three picks that all have that color that’s not quite turquoise, not quite aqua, not quite cerulean, not quite Tiffany blue, not quite robin’s egg. It’s a color that wanders a range. Technically, it’s more than one color. We know that. But for purposes of this post, we’re declaring the whole range one color because it doesn’t really matter, unless you’re trying to match it as a paint color or decor, and boy, then are you on your own. That’s when you realize how many colors it really is.
Somewhere in that watercolor swashing is the color of aqua-turquoise-aquamarine-blue-green that speaks directly to your vintage heart. Without even trying, we can see it in vintage American pottery, paper ephemera, glassware, canning jars, clothing and so much more. So that’s why we’re confident we can call it a beloved color. Any color that is so widely used and so both calming and exciting deserves that title.

Sterling and turquoise never seem to go out of style. This simply designed bracelet is an example of the timeless designs created with these versatile materials. This cuff bracelet is adjustable and features an openwork pattern set with three polished cabochon style stones. It’s unsigned but most likely Native American. The minimalist style reminds me of the clean sparse designs of mid century furniture.

Josef Originals Captain & First Mate, Salt and Pepper Shakers
With less than a two-hour drive, we can be at the ocean here in Massachusetts. This pair is a set of salt and pepper shakers, but I’d like to call them “The Two Old Salts.” Josef Originals made these in the 1970s in various combinations. I have the captain and first mate as I call them. Other versions may have a sailor in a watch cap and rope. Perfect for the seaside cottage or collector.

Offering a nice vintage American gathering basket dating to the ’30s or ’40s. It’s an exceptionally large one, measuring 18″ in length and 14″ in width and height, so its owner could bring home lots of veggies for dinner.

Ravenna O. Bottling Works bottle
Vintage (or is it antique) beverage bottle from the Ravenna Ohio Bottling Works. The internet was full of references to the Ravenna Glass Company, but would not yield a single shred of information about the bottling works. So we can only assess it by the way it’s made and the beautiful color. It’s been banged around, perhaps it was a returnable bottle like so many soda bottles were.
