Fresh to Market Vintage: 3/3/2024

It’s March and we’ve got flowers on the brain. March is neither here nor there. It can act like winter or spring, and it can change modes in less time than it take a vintage lover to pounce on a mid century Culver martini pitcher at a thrift store. So yeah, we all broke out the flowers for this week’s fresh to market vintage because we are ready for a full spring commitment.

Belleek and Tara Irish Ceramics

To be truthful, I am tired of this year’s New England winter. The snow has melted and the landscape is not very colorful on a gray day. I am so happy it’s March. This month celebrates the first day of spring, Saint Patrick’s Day and in this year, Easter. By the end of the month we will be seeing green and even starting to plant seeds outside. These shamrock ceramics made in Ireland may give some luck and at the least some green to look forward to. March forth!

Molded Roses Ring

This wide band ring of molded roses is a bit of puzzle. I’m honestly not sure if it was originally designed as a scarf ring or a finger ring. Either way though, it’s a lovely piece. Since I have a love of roses, it of course caught my attention. If you choose to wear it on a finger, it fits a U.S. ring size 6.

Victorian Green Glass Tumbler c 1900s

I freely admit I have a thing for hand-painted Victorian glass tumblers. This one is a soft shade of green, hand decorated with a stylized enameled pink floral design on the front side. It would be a lovely addition to a contemporary cottage table.

BerJan Decoupage Bird and Flower Handbag

Decoupage was popular in 1960s and 70s. Either you bought it or you did it. One of the on trend things you might have bought was a decoupage handbag like this one from BerJan. There are enough BerJan handbags for sale in vintage shops to suggest this was a company, not one person. But details about who and where eluded both Mother Google and me. I did suss out that the bags were sold at high end boutiques and department stores. The attention to detail is nice, particularly on the inside. Imagine carrying this with you on a spring day, or filling it with your sewing notions, baseball cards or a secret stash of bon-bons at home.
