Fresh to Market Vintage: 04/06/2025

April is stuffed with holidays. Easter, Passover, Tax Day, Earth Day, 4/20 and Arbor Day are all celebrated in April this year. Another thing to celebrate is throwing open the window on warm days and busting out the bunnies and flowers, some of which we have in this week’s fresh to market vintage.

Mid Century Printed Tablecloth

Soon it will be time to sit outside with a tall glass of lemonade and enjoy the sun. What better way to set a table for the season than with a vintage tablecloth filled with cherries and berries. This tablecloth will fit a smaller sized patio table or card table. The colors are bright and cheerful. It has seen many small get togethers with friends over the years. It originally belonged to a dear friend who enjoyed entertaining. Hopefully it will spark some wonderful memories in its future as well.

NN Hill Lithographed Easter Toy c 1943

market vintage

In 1889, Norman N. Hill opened his own company designed to manufacture steel bells in a new way. His approach must have made sense because by 1912, “N.N. Hill Brass Company” was the world’s largest bell & toy factory. In the ’30s, the company was awarded a contract to produce wooden toys for Disney and the rest, as they say, is history. This particular pull toy was one of the “Rabbit Cart” series and was released in 1943 for Easter. The brightly colored rabbit is cut out of wood & features a set of rollers and a two-sided, glued-on paper rabbit design. The N.N. Hill Brass Co. closed its doors in the early 1960s, making their wooden toys that have survived a favorite of American toy collectors.

Four Egg Cups, 3 Birds and a Bunny

market vintage

Chicks hatch in the natural world when the weather is warm enough for their survival. The hen then adds her warmth and comfort under her warm chest feathers. This is why chicks and even bunnies are harbingers of spring and this month’s celebration of Easter. These four kitschy cute baby birds and their bunny friend will hold your decorated easter eggs in wait for the hearty breakfast before the Easter parade and egg hunts.

Paul Revere Life Insurance Commemorative

In Massachusetts, we have an April Monday holiday, Patriot’s Day, which commemorates the first skirmish of the Revolutionary War. It’s big doings in these parts, with reenactments including rides by the three messengers who alerted the countryside and the Revolutionary leaders that the British were coming to Lexington, plus a Red Sox game and the Boston Marathon. Paul Revere is the best known of the three riders — “one if by land, two if by sea,” the Longfellow poem and all that. This detailed bronze clad figurine, a commemorative from the Paul Revere Life Insurance Company, would be an awesome addition to the collection of any Revolutionary War buff.

Revere himself was quite the renaissance man, read his bio here.

Don’t let April days slip by you. Things happen fast, one day the branches are bare, the next they are full of blooms. One day you’re wearing socks, the next you are declaring your feet free of sock constraints. We would never pick one season over another, but we are awfully fond of showcasing our fresh to market spring vintage.
