Creative Ways to Wrap Gifts

Coming up with creative ways to wrap  gifts is one way to make a simple gift special. A beautifully wrapped gift makes the act of unwrapping even more fun. Even if you’re doing your shopping online this year, taking time to wrap a gift creatively is well worth the effort. By adding a personal touch you’re letting the recipient know how much you care.

Be it whimsical, romantic, silly, or elegant, a specially wrapped gift is a great way to make holiday gifts stand out. We gathered some creative ways to wrap holiday gifts to spark your imagination. These ideas go beyond the usual potato print and newsprint ideas of elementary school.

Start by gathering items around the house like scraps of fabric, small trinkets like old key chains, broken costume jewelry, trading cards, bits of lace, decorative paper napkins or doilies, glitter, sequins or other crafting supplies leftover from long completed projects. Stickers, markers, ink stamps, colored pencils and crayons are all welcome to join the fun.

Grab some paper grocery bags or a roll of butcher or brown paper. Spread your bags out by cutting open or roll out the paper. Choose a theme and decorate your paper by drawing or stamping designs on it. For polka dots grab a pencil with an eraser and some paint. Dip the eraser end and stamp away. You can use a single color or mix and match.

For small gifts, brightly colored magazine pages or old sheet music works well. For slightly larger boxes, old dressmaking patterns provide a somewhat transparent wrapping that looks great finished off with a fabric ribbon and an old wooden spool.

Do you have a stash of old hankies or doilies? Wrap up a small gift in either one and add a flourish with an old mismatched earring or broken brooch to top it off. Have something a bit larger? A vintage scarf makes a beautiful way to wrap up a gift.

While out on a walk, gather natural elements like small sticks, bits of greenery, dried leaves and small pinecones. Wrapped up with a pretty ribbon and sprinkled with a bit of glitter these make great gift toppers.

One of my favorite ways to wrap small gifts is using vintage paper lace placemats to create gift bags. This quick and easy bag always gets a smile. All you need is a rectangular paper lace placemat, ribbon, glue, and something to punch a hole in the paper.
