Blow mold plastic decor is decor for all seasons. There are the light-up Santa and snowman figures, the Easter Bunnies, the ghosts and the pumpkins. And the most extravagant of all the illuminated blow molds, the full multi-piece nativity, right down to the cow lounging in the straw. But, while those that light are all grand and glorious, I submit for your approval that the pinnacle of blow mold excellence is, and will always be Don Featherstone’s lawn flamingos. (We love those so much we wrote about them.)
Light-up blow molds are flashier and get more attention, but we are also fond of the plastic garden figures. So this week, the picks are blow mold critters to park between your petunias (or if you are resourceful, in your home with a hold drilled in them to accommodate a light cord set).
1990s Don Featherstone Pig Blow Mold
Why this is awesome: It was designed by the maestro, the master, the grand poobah. Also, I’ve never seen it before.
What I would do with this: Nestle him in the tomato garden to attempt to convince the chipmunks not to raid.
1990s Black Cat Blow Mold
Why this is awesome: Look at those eyes, those giant green eyes. Also, it’s weighted instead of having a stake to keep it in place, which seems like an improvement.
How I would use this: On the front step for Halloween, or in the garden by the road with a little solar spotlight on it.
1960s NOS Blow Mold Skunk
Why this is awesome: Again with the eyes, look at those sweet eyes and pert little snout.
How I would use this: This might be one to illuminate. I believe I would try to drill a hole big enough to fit in a cord set. At only 11″, he would be a dandy accent lamp or nightlight.
