Fresh to Market Vintage: 6/30/2024

Never underestimate the power of something cheerful. Humans are not able to maintain a persistent level of cheerfulness. It would be nice, but it would also be tiresome. Imagine having a flat tire and responding to that cheerfully because that’s how you’re wired. That would be wrong. We humans need something to spark our cheerful, and this week’s fresh to market vintage has four things that can do that.

Bird lovers, and who isn’t one, would love the sparrows. We dare you to wear that necklace and not have a bounce in your step. There is no way to walk past that cat tile and not smile. And regaling your friends with tunes on your cow ocarina would make everyone cheerful and jealous, a win-win.

As we’ve said before, we don’t compare notes when we slide our fresh to market vintage picks into the post. Sometimes we have a virtual mind meld, and this was one of them. For some reason, we were all of a mind that something cheerful was exactly what was needed this summer weekend.

1960s Goebel Sparrow Trio

I cannot help it. When I saw these 3 birds, I thought of Bob Marley’s song Three Little Birds, which encourages the listeners to “don’t worry about a thing. Every little thing is gonna be all right.”  I love songs and symbols of hope and love. Speaking of which, Emily Dickinson’s poem is another from very long ago and each gladdens my heart and spirit:

“Hope” is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all,

Bright Orange BSK Choker

Summer is the time of year to bring out the brightly colored wardrobe and accessories. This BSK choker length necklace fits the bill. The bright orange thermoset and gold toned chain and detail mean it will look great with everything from your beachwear to casual evening wear. Even though it’s over 50 years old, its style is still current.

Ceramic “Yellow Bird Studio” Tile, Signed & Dated 2000

fresh to market vintage Offering a vintage ceramic tile created by Marianne Bernstein Vinich of the “Yellow Bird Studio”. It features a colorful folky scene of a calico cat looking longingly out a window at a bright yellow bird.  The original sales ephemera is still attached to the back, making it a fun decorative addition to a bird, cat, or heart collection.

Whistleworks Pottery Cow Ocarina

Few ocarinas have crossed my path. And only one of those has been handmade and shaped like a cow. Blow in her tail, use your fingers to play notes with the four holes on her back. Imagine showing up for a drop-in music night at the local pub and wailing away on your cow ocarina.
