things we saw

Our favorite finds from the internet this past week.

Dot (AtticAndBarnTreasures.com) – Want a quick COOKIE HACK! Got your attention didn’t I. 🙂 You can join the fab folks making cookies from a cake mix! Yep – a cake mix! I am seeing carrot “cake” cookies in my near future!

JayDee (ThirdShiftVintage.com) – With the total solar eclipse just a month away, I spotted this website from Space.com that has an eclipse countdown, as well as tips for viewing the eclipse, an interactive eclipse viewing map, and other updates. I thought it was pretty cool, and wanted to share it. I sure wish I were in one of the cities along the path! Will you be traveling to any of the places in the path of the eclipse to get a close up view?

Laurie (NextStageVintage.com) – The two New Englanders in the group are thinking food (see Aunt Hattie below). I’m not from Rhode Island, but my adoration of Del’s Lemonade and the official state drink, coffee milk, might make me at least an honorary summer resident.  Chocolate milk is nice, strawberry milk is okay but coffee milk…mmm. Read about it’s history here.

Linda (SelectiveSalvage.com) –  I am a fan of American folk art and so was fascinated to read the story of Mary Nohl of Milwaukee Wisconsin. She was labeled as a witch in the 1960’s but that didn’t stop her from creating her very unique form of art, transforming her home into what folk art experts call an “art environment”.

Mary Ellen (AuntHattiesAtticVintage.com) – I am in love with hot dogs and enjoyed how our humble hot dog roll came about. The New England Hot Dog Bun
With a toasted, buttery outside and a soft inside, top-loading New England hot dog bun is arguably one of the best buns in the world. . Food History!

Pam (VintageRenude.com) – I’m a huge fan of Rock N Roll music, but even I couldn’t identify all of these, can you? How well do you know the typography of Rock N Roll?

Tina (GirlPickers.com) –  Oh my gosh, I enjoyed these so much!  The 35 most perfectly timed photos you will ever see.
