Our favorite finds from the internet this past week.

Dot ( – This is a link you will definitely want to bookmark! This site is still in Beta (meaning it is a work in progress) so you will want to check back occasionally to see the updates. Find your native plants by your zip code! No other site exists like this and I can see this becoming a valuable asset to the gardening enthusiasts!

JayDee ( – I have been fascinated with outerspace and astronomy since I was old enough to read. It’s definitely a hobby where you learn something new everyday! This week I stumbled on an article called Vintage Space. The articles written by Amy Shira Teitel are fascinating! They include information on all the stories most people don’t know about the space programs. Check it out!

Laurie ( – Twenty of Dale Chihuly’s incredible glass installations are on display at the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx through October 29. That has “road trip” written all over it!

Linda ( –  Scientists say 50% of your ability to be happy is heredity, which means its beyond your control. But the good news is the other 50% can be managed by you on a daily basis. Read through this article “Want to Be a Lot Happier? Science Says Do Any 1 of These 9 Things” and see if you agree with me, that the simple act of reading it made you smile.

Mary Ellen ( – We are big fans of double pawed cats and have had many throughout our over 40 years together. We are thinking of our friend JayDee with with the recent birth of a litter with a few of these charmers! Polydactyl Cats: The Charm of Big Feet”.

Tina ( –  Speaking of auctions…what if you were the winning bidder for some moon dust.  Here’s an article from Kovels where a lady did just that and when NASA tried to claim it, she sued them and won!

  1. I always love to see the interesting finds everyone comes up with each week. This week sure was a good one! The Native Plant finder is so cool – I know several gardener friends who will appreciate that. Those glass sculptures are incredible! Wish I could make one like that Citron Sun for my backyard! I agree with the 9 things to make you happier – nice list! How cool to own a bit of the moon! And polydactyl cats? Oh my! They have a special place in my heart (thank you Mary Ellen). 🙂

  2. I was lucky enough to see a traveling road show of Chihuly’s glass in Phoenix. His work is absolutely amazing and certainly something to see, if you ever have the opportunity.

Thanks for posting the Native Plant Finder, Dot. We’re gardening in a new area so this will be a great tool.
