Vintage Picks of the Week – Astronomy

Vintage Picks Of The Week

It’s time for our series Vintage Picks of the Week! We scour the internet looking for just the right piece of vintage to add to our decor, and include ideas on how we think these pieces could be used.

The Picks this week are brought to you by JayDee at ThirdShift

Tellurium

What I Like About It: From a very young age, I have been a backyard astronomer. To this day, I watch the night sky most nights that are clear, year-round – even in the Winter. In Minnesota. I’m fascinated by the night sky and all the secrets it holds. I have dreamed of owning a tellurium since I was a kid. This one is absolutely incredible – I love everything about it. It has a sort of steampunk vibe that I really like!

How I Would Use It: This tellurium would have a permanent place on a coffee table in our great room – a highly visible place where everyone would be able to enjoy it!

Astronomy Lithograph

What I Like About It: I love that this lithograph is black and white (my favorite colors) and I especially love how the stars are portrayed.

How I Would Use It: I would love to frame this print and use it in my office. Before I framed it, I would make large-scale copies of the print, then use the copies as gift wrap for those “out of this world” gifts.

Antique Orrery

What I Like About It: An orrery is such a cool mechanical representation of the planets and the moon. Like a tellurium, I really like the steampunk feel of this orrery. I think it’s a fascinating piece of history.

How I Would Use It: I think this piece would be a fabulous addition to a home library or study. It should take center stage and be displayed for people to enjoy, and for people to not be afraid to touch it. It’s really a remarkable piece!
